June 6

My philosophy in life is “live and let live,” but if one has to engage – destroy – as swiftly as possible. Take them down – but it has to be done as punishment, not revenge.  That’s an important distinction.  I want BP dissolved.  From what I hear, they have the worst safety record.  They need to simply be dissolved – stripped of their assets, and put down.  To that end, I want every dead animal dropped on the lawn of a BP Exec – and the White House until they are filled with rotting carcases.

This is no less a disaster than 9-11 and strutting around the beach, picking up an oil ball, then going back to Washington to play with the basketball team isn’t what I expect from this supposedly action oriented President.  Immediate loss of life isn’t the only thing that counts.

By the way, what happens if you drop a bomb on top of the well?  Would that make it worse or seal it up?  Can you create an explosion that deep in the sea? Why aren’t they crimping the pipe instead of cutting it open?  Is this all about “saving their investment” – not about stopping the flow?

Every single living human being on earth should be allowed to participate as Plaintiff in this Class Action Law Suit.  Attorneys from every corner of the world should get together and take it on pro bono – and every penny should go for the purpose of restoring the environment.

Early on, my beloved husband taught me the law of irreversible decisions.  It says things like “once oil is spilled, you can’t put it back in the well.”  We had very different approaches to life.  I was a “just do it” and if it doesn’t work, “I’ll fix it” person.  He was very deliberate in the planning stage. As I’ve grown older, I’ve grown tired of fixing things.  I’ve learned that some things can’t be fixed.  This can’t be “fixed.”  Decisions resulting in this spill are irreversible and the effects permanent.  Animals are dead, and entire species, like a rare whale, may be wiped out.

Friday morning, the attorney who filed the Class Action Lawsuit in the Exxon Valdez spill was talking about how BP will come out of this with the tiniest sting on its hand. He fought big oil for TWENTY years before they finally got any money – and I think he said the resulting award was something like $1.4 Billion – after something like half a billion in legal costs associated with the fight.

The only way this can work is if ALL OF US ARE NAMED AS PLAINTIFFS.  We have to make the case that we are all injured.  We have to make the case that this is in the class of a war crime – crimes against humanity, not just a matter of paying off a hotel owner who has oil on his beach.  If this precedence is set, it will give big business world-wide a new reason to make sure they apply all available knowledge to every process that might seriously impact the environment.

I was pouring coffee from my Keurig, made with a PLASTIC K-cup, and added two little things of cream in their PLASTIC containers, when I noticed the little coffee waste basket filled with PLASTIC refuse.  As I looked at that trash, I realized that WE are responsible for this.  I have a perfectly good BUNN in the kitchen.  How stinking lazy can a human being get?

Just to put it into perspective, I learned, while watching TV as I walked on my electric treadmill, that all the spilled oil would barely fill the needs of our country for one day – just a single day.  That should give us an idea of how much money is being pumped into Venezuela, the Middle East, and the other oil-exporting countries.  It makes me want to vomit!  American blood soaks the sands of the Middle East, and no matter what spin politicians put on it, they’re mixing it with oil before spilling it on the ground.  History is that before the winds of time can cover one batch, they start mixing up another.

If the entire world had the savings for all the people driving mobile home sized SUVs back and forth to the local store a dozen times a day for one thing each trip, we wouldn’t need thousands of wells thousands of feet below the ocean floor.  We need to stop!  Enough!  Every single one of us could cut our energy consumption by 25%.  Besides that, who would be so ungodly stupid as to think you can have thousands of wells thousands of feet below the ocean floor and never have a single instance of human error or a single instance of mechanical failure resulting in total devastation?  Who?  Most people can’t even eat spaghetti while they’re wearing a white shirt!

We – every one of us – needs to understand that those birds are dying because of choices we make.  They suffer and die because we – through not just our need for oil, but our demand for CHEAP oil, killed them. We have to have cheap oil so we elect politicians that will keep the oil cheap.  The politicians keep the oil cheap by allowing big oil to cut corners.  If you hire someone to murder your spouse, you’re guilty!  Each of us needs to take ownership for our own contribution to this mess and we need to change it – today.

So, you – the  person with the lives of the dolphins, pelicans, sea turtles, and shrimp, in your hand, alongside the key to your car – you, with your plastic filled life – what will you do – today – to start making a difference?  If you’re not willing to step out and make a difference, then squeeze your hand shut on the lives of these animals.  Steel your hearts and just go about your business – because I guarantee you that just as sure and there was Chernobyl, the Exxon Valdez, and BP in the Gulf – there will be more if we are not willing to give up our demand for cheap energy.
